Sylvie Mayer is a painter originally from Rhode Island and currently located in Oklahoma City. She holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and will be an MFA Painting candidate at Boston University in the Fall of 2023. Sylvie’s paintings center around loss, the passage of time, and mortality. The works in this exhibition focus on the natural world’s interactions with the built environment. These paintings consider branches, vines, shadows, passageways and thresholds. They are concerned with how we move through the seasons; the last days of fall when the leaves barely hang on the trees, the bare bones of winter branches, the yellow-pink joy of spring, and the scorching heat of summer. Throughout these works, the trees and their branches act as mirrors, guides, and shelter.
