Jump into May at the PACC!
The Paseo Art Association is proud to host three exhibitions in May at the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center. These include Kristen Brown’s Play! in Gallery I, the SPACE resident artists in Gallery II and Rick Sinnett in Gallery III. These shows will open with a reception on May 3 during First Friday, from 6-9pm at 3024 Paseo.
First, visitors are invited to invoke their inner child at Kristen Brown’s exhibit, Play! The subjects in Brown’s artwork include crayons, toys, shoes and other objects and scenarios that are associated with children. The overall theme in this exhibit is the passage of time and how our perception of how we value these objects changes as we mature. By using this imagery, Brown hopes to invoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder within the viewer.
Next, explore the legacy of the Paseo Arts Association’s SPACE Artist in Residence program in this exhibition showcasing past SPACE artists in residence. This program operated for 10 years in its previous location at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel and is now looking for a new partner and location. Its goal is to offer a working art studio with an artist stipend for artists planning special projects for the public to contribute to or interact with. Artists include Jerry Bennett, Gayle Curry, Petra Germany, Marissa Raglin, LaQuincey Reed, Kerri Shadid and Jennifer Woods. Mediums include bronze sculpture, mixed media, illustration, encaustic, painting and jewelry.
Finally, Rick Sinnett’s artwork will be displayed in honor of his creation of the 2024 Paseo Arts Festival Featured Artwork and poster. Sinnett is a self-taught muralist, printmaker and curator from Mustang, Oklahoma. He characteristically uses bold lines, vibrant colors and repeated patterns. Since most of his work includes animals and natural elements, he has adopted the moniker of “Mothman.” Sinnett’s notable works include large murals that can be seen in Tulsa, Pauls Valley, Norman, El Reno, and other locations along Route 66, and most notably on the Rocktown grain elevator near Bricktown in Oklahoma City.
