Festivities at the PACC
Give the gift of art this December.
The Paseo Arts and Creativity Center will be hosting the Artiphone, a debut group show from the Paseo Artists Collective in Gallery I, the Small Art Show in Gallery II and an exhibit by Whitney Batres titled Toybox in Gallery III.
These exhibits will open during First Friday Gallery Walk on Dec. 6, from 6-9 p.m. at the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center.
Gallery I: Artiphone
The Paseo Artists Collective, a group of Paseo artists who collaborate on experimental projects, invites you to reminisce about your childhood with a game of telephone.
Instead of a word or phrase, the 14 artists involved in this group show used a mystery image to play the game.
This game of telephone began with one artist receiving the mystery image and recreating it in their own style and medium. The first artist w0uld then send a picture of their creation to the next artist, who would then take their picture and either recreate it or reinterpret it to fit their own style and technique. The game ended when each member of the Paseo Artists Collective created their version of the artwork sent to them.
The Paseo Artists Collective will feature their own artwork in Gallery I as a way for visitors to see more of each artist’s creative style.
Gallery II: Small Art Show
Looking for a gift for someone on your list? The Small Art Show is the perfect stop for the budding art collectors in your life.
All of the pieces in this exhibit are under 15” in any direction and are priced under $200.
The Small Art Show has pieces created in the following mediums: painting, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media.
There will be a juror talk with Suzanne Thomas prior to the second reception of this exhibit on Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. in Gallery II. For more information about Thomas, you can read the November blog post here.
Gallery III: Toybox by Whitney Batres
Batres explores abstract visuals with geometric shapes and patterns.
According to the artist, “the aim with this body of work is to elicit bright feelings and create moments of emotional reprieve, as if peeking into a space not our own, unaffected by the real world.”
A painter based out of OKC, Batres graduated from University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. She has participated in several exhibitions and studio tours in Texas, Utah and Oklahoma.
When she is not in the studio creating art, Batres is an assistant curator at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
