People of the Prairie by Kris Newlin

  • Paseo Arts Association 3024 Paseo Oklahoma City, OK, 73103 United States (map)

***Opening reception on Thursday, October 17 - 5-8pm

This art project was designed to break down financial barriers and art accessibility by meeting people where they are at and using art as a therapeutic tool to soften losses, celebrate healing, and connect with compassion.  It allowed me to partner with non-profits to assist them in educating the public about what they do, put a face with their place, and potentially raise funds if prints of the paintings sell.  It is my hope that the art inspires you to understand the needs in our state and the people working hard to meet those needs.  The paintings in this series are meant to show the beautiful diversity of the people who call Oklahoma home, and give everyone at the art show the opportunity to show support for the People of The Prairie and the organizations behind them.  All limited run prints will be sold for $30.00 each and will benefit the organization listed with the painting.

A bit of whimsy and wonder, mixed with contemplative creativity are at the core of Kris Newlin's work. Kris Newlin is a mixed media artist, art therapist, and licensed professional counselor. She tends to infuse her work with tarnished treasures that symbolically reference hope and restoration in their repurposing. The beautiful faces of people from all walks of life are always a point of inspiration and favorite subject matter. A native Okie she loves connecting with local folks and painting their portraits. Kris enjoys telling the story of the person through the bits and pieces collaged together, that add dimension not just to the painting but the personality. It is her hope that you walk away from her art, feeling like you got to know the person in the painting and even her as the artist, a little better in the process.
