Photographers VC Torneden and Melinda Green Harvey have collaborated to present The Other Side, an ongoing project covering the historic Route 66. The project has been in process for three years, aiming to conclude in 2026 to commemorate the Mother Road’s centennial. The Other Side aims to bring a fresh perspective on Route 66 by taking a deeper look at its overlooked importance. Torneden’s photos bring a sense of familiarity as she has used Route 66 as a primary subject in her work for more than a decade, giving her an encyclopedic knowledge of the road and its landmarks. Harvey has never traveled Route 66 before this project, but has used her photography to pivot the small-town life and how it devolved since Route 66’s decertification.
Join us for an Artist Talk with the artists, VC Torneden and Melinda Green Harvey on Friday, September 6 at 5pm! Then stay to explore the show during the opening reception from 6-9pm.
In Memory of John Robison:
The artists of The Other Side would like to dedicate this exhibit to the memory of John Robison, owner of Paseo Gallery One and an original advocate for the Paseo Arts District and all its artists.
Without his support, kind heart, and conviction, the Paseo would not be what it is today. We thank him for his early encouragement and interest in The Other Side project. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
