Final days of summer with Tour de Quartz and Art Group OKC

Written By Aaliyah Ellison

Enjoy the final days of summer with the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center and experience the Tour de Quartz (by the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute) and the Art Group OKC show (juried by Helen Opper). From August 4 through 26, 2023, our galleries are showcasing emerging Oklahoma artists through a variety of mediums and distinctive styles.

Founded in 2017, the Art Group OKC collective helps over 70 artists to create a vibrant community centered around discussing and creating contemporary art. The group’s mission is to help its artists develop their skills and network for career growth by hosting studio visits, exhibits, markets and bi-monthly social gatherings.

Join us in Gallery I to view the juried contemporary art of Art Group OKC’s 19 featured artists - C.C. Caldwell, Clara Wiebe, Colin Long, Connor Albrightson, Daniela Tesic, Duncan Payne, Evan Ward, Faye Miller, Jessica Longley, Karis Chambers, Katelynn Noel Knick, Lauren Kelly, Maddey Withers, Maria Anderson, Marina Draves, Rachele Cromer, Roxxann Murphy, Sarah Atlee and Tara McLean-Dickins.

We are excited to have Helen Opper share her background in fine arts curation, appraising, advising and education as this year’s juror. Opper studied art history at UC Berkeley and received a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from New York University. With Opper’s passion for supporting underrepresented artists, she serves as an ally in the fine arts community.

In Gallery II, the Tour de Quartz introduces the audience to striking works created by the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) students. In this exhibit, OSAI highlights the photography, drawings and paintings curated by its students during the two-week program at the institute.

OSAI is a private, non-profit organization that was founded in 1977 with a mission to provide exceptional multidisciplinary art experiences to develop individual talent and inspire a lifelong passion for the arts in its students. During their time at OSAI, students are immersed in one of eight artistic disciplines taught by nationally renowned artists. After the intensive program, the participants leave with the discipline and self-confidence needed for success.

You can show your support for the new generation of Oklahoma artists and OSAI at the Tour de Quartz exhibit and at the Oklahoma Arts Institute Quartz Mountain’s website https://oaiquartz.org/content/donate-online.
